Picket Cup returns after two years

The Ba Bowling Club will host the Islands Electric Picket Cup 2022 pairs at the Lautoka Bowling Club green this weekend.

Clubs that have confirmed their participat­ion are Labasa, Suva, Rewa, Tamavua, Sheraton, Nadi, Lautoka and hosts Ba.

Islands Electric managing director Raymond Singh said: The major event is returning after two years due to the pandemic.”

Experience­d players in the likes of Semesa Naiseravat­u, David Aitheson, Kushal Pillay, Martin Fong, Rajinesh Raju, and Ramesh Chand are representi­ng their clubs.

“There will be prize galore apart from the top three winning teams,” he said.

Ba Bowling Club Secretary, Iliyaz Khan said the event is in memory of late former Ba and national rep

Abdul Kalim.

“Picket Cup is one of great value and prestige that originated from Levuka, the home of the fabulous three time Pineapple Cup winner S.J Pickett. The Picket cup was first played in 1932,” Kalim said.

The two-day competitio­n gets underway on Saturday with the finals on Sunday.
