Poverty Rate

Ecelini Naivadra,

Namadi

Does downward revision of the poverty rate mean that poverty has disappeared? Absolutely not! Hopefully the meaning of ‘rate’ is not being deliberately ignored by some.

Change of Allegiance

Tarun Tikaram, Lami

Biman was approached by Fiji Sun to respond to Rabuka’s comments about the 1987 coup and its aftermath but he says he does not talk to the Fiji Sun. So much for media freedom. Well perhaps he can talk to me now since I come from his favorite media organization the Fiji Times which he regularly talks to. Now my question to Biman is; What do you have to say to Rabuka’s interview with Fiji Village wherein he claimed that his coup has played a huge part in preparing those who left Fiji for greener pastures? Don’t worry Biman I am not asking this question on behalf of the Fiji Sun but I definitely want the people of Fiji to carefully read his reply if he so does.

It will be interesting reading because he has recently changed his allegiance and with it his narrative to suit his revised political agenda and pathway. You’ll be surprised what these politicians can do at the drop of a hat. He is trying to fool the electorate but doesn’t realize that he is in fact fooling himself.

Being Singapore Lautoka

Wise Muavono,

They said Fiji was to become the Singapore of the Pacific. I think they were meaning the high cost of living like being experienced right now. Isa o Viti!

Removing derelict ships harbor costly

from

Ronnie Chang , Nadi

Derelict ships and vessels in our harbours are nothing new.

They keep increasing without a solution in sight.

Can we not take a page out of Australian and New Harbour port operations?

Or are we “afraid and too lenient” in enforcing stringent maritime laws?

Or have shipping operators seen the need to take full advantage of leniency?

Nothing ventured; Nothing gained. Same old status quo prevails and suffices, for now.
