The next three years will determine the business Semi Nawaqavou intends to run for the rest of his life.

Mr Nawaqavou was selected to work in Australia-particularly in the meat industry - after a rigorous interview process.

The 30-year-old said the opportunity by the Fijian Government under the Pacific Labour Mobility scheme would help fund his farming business.

“I have been a farmer all my life and my income depends on what I produce but this opportunity will give me things I could not afford as a farmer,” he said.

Mr Nawaqavou aims to start a poultry farm in his home in Naitasiri Province upon his return from overseas.

“My aim is when I reach 50, I should retire from work and let my investments make money for me. My family and I will be in financial freedom.”

He is among more than 200 other Fijians who will depart for Australia to work in various industries.

In bidding farewell, Minister for Employment Parveen Bala said the life changing experience would offer workers financial abundance and skills
