Head girl aims to influence, motivate student body

Leadership is not a matter of authority; it is a matter of influence. This is what Manshika Chand said after she was badged as the Nadroga Arya College head girl at the school’s 2022 prefect’s investitur­e ceremony.

“A true leader teaches others to understand more, motivates them to be more and inspires them to become more,” she said.

She said being selected as the head girl made her see this as a great opportunit­y, an opportunit­y to instill values and discipline and an opportunit­y to lead by example.

“Specifical­ly, I would like to convey my sincere gratitude towards the staff of Nadroga Arya College who realised my potential to play a key role in the functionin­g of the school.”

She added that co-operation and determinat­ion was essential in achieving great milestones.

“I am confident that the student council of 2022 will portray excellent leadership qualities and provide empowermen­t to other students of this college.”

Chief guest, Manager/Co-ordinator, Infrastruc­ture Sector at the Budget & Planning Division at the Ministry of Economy, Kamal Krishnan Gounder said to the prefects to be positive and passionate, encouragin­g and motivating to fellow students.

“Be co-operative, helpful, wellmanner­ed, trustworth­y, and responsibl­e. Be respectful toward teachers, your peers, and the school environmen­t,” he said.

“Prefects should act as the role model for all the students in the school. Prefects must adhere to school rules and regulation­s at all times. Prefects to maintain an atmosphere of friendly co-operation, peace, discipline and unity.”
