Qawa Primary School head students have thanked their teachers for showing faith in them.

Head boy, Paula Gaunalagilagi dedicated his achievement to his mum, a hotel worker in Nadi and his grandparents who he has been living with in Vunivau, Labasa.

“However, I am thankful to my grandfather who is a retired head teacher and my grandmother who always makes sure that I study,” the 13-year-old said.

He said that while the leadership role would be challenging, he would sacrifice his sleep to prepare for this year’s Fiji Year Eight Certificate.

Head girl, Natasha Prasad of Vunivau, said the election was a surprise.

“I thought it would be as usual like how other schools practice where deputies are automatically promoted,” she said.

“I would like to thank the teachers for having faith in me and I promise not to let them down.”

The duo will be working alongside 18 prefects. The school has 339 students.
