7s Reps Reach Out to Sigatoka Community
The Fiji Airways Fijian Men’s 7s team teamed up with the staff members of Sigatoka Hospital on Wednesday during their day-off to assist in community engagement programme and the opportunity to give back to their fans and visit patients who are admitted.
Led by the head coach Ben Gollings along with his assistants Viliame Satala and Jerry Tuwai, the initiative attracted many diehard fans including sick patients who got up from their bed to meet their heroes in the international rugby arena.
Team manager Inia Ledua said the program was scheduled as a morale booster for the boys to remind them of the people they will be representing in the World Sevens Series and a good opportunity to bring about smiling faces to those that are under medical observation in the wards.
“Community engagement programme which includes volunteer work through tent dismantle and the reviving of its ‘eat local’ vegetables concept garden as a tool in walking the talk on fight against NCD,” said Ledua.
“The team gives back in terms of bringing smiles to the faces of those that are sick, especially a way of thanking our frontline for the work and sacrifices they made during the global war against COVID-19. The programme has indeed brought smiles to the faces of the people in Sigatoka as the players return to camp to prepare for their departure to France on Saturday.
“We indeed have gained their support on our journey to Toulouse and London,” he added.
“A smile has a million reasons, hence we brought it to our very own Fijians through this initiative.”
