Kunatani returns after five-year absence
Dual Olympic Games gold medalist Jerry Tuwai will not be part of the Toulouse and London 7s as Fiji Airways Fijian 7s head coach Ben Gollings named his final 13-member squad.
Tuwai who has been very instrumental whenever he is on the field, unfortunately will miss out the upcoming tournaments as he was not well.
“I want to support him have better preparation and as we build towards commonwealth games and World Cup he does not need to prove his quality while we look at players,” head coach Ben Gollings said.
“He is on standby if we have any injuries.”
Gollings added that Tuwai has maintained his coaching role in supporting the team.
Kunatani returns on the world stage after a lapse of five years.
The “Beast” is expected to add more fire power and experience in the forward pack which consists of Josua Vakurinabili, Joseva Talacolo, Tevita Daugunu, Elia Canakaivata and Jerry Matana.
“Semi is good for experience and has been working very hard to get this opportunity. He is great around the players and provides good leadership” said Gollings.
Napolioni Bolaca also makes his comeback after spending a short time with the Fijian Drua.
“Bolaca has been working hard with Fijian Drua and with us. I want to see him play. He’s a great addition to the squad. Obviously there’s adjustments but I’m sure he will adapt well.”
The head coach has maintained his seasonal and core players from the last leg. Speedsters Filipe Sauturaga and hard hitting back Manueli Maisamoa have been included in the squad after missing the last leg due to injuries.
The Toulouse 7s will be held from May 21-23 while the London tournament will be on May 29-30.
