The launch of the Fijian Music app earlier this week will allow local artists to earn income and at the same time protect them through Copyright laws.

Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum applauded the vision of the Procera Music Fiji in launching the app adding that this was a good space to help develop the local music industry.

Local artist, Rupeni Tubuna, said they were faced with a lot of copyright challenges because their hard work was duplicated when the cassettes and compact discs were the mediums of storing music.

“With the introduction of the app, there is a sense of security to our songs as it becomes our main source of income,”Mr Tubuna said.

“The challenges we faced in the past are now our stepping stones in moving forward to the future with the use of technology.”

The Director of Procera Music Fiji, Mohammed Akif, said the local music industry was worth millions of dollars and they were optimistic about the app.
