Saneem consents to amendment of statement in defamation case
Mr Tudravu told the court he also received instructions from Mitchell Keil Lawyers to request time to file the statement of defence.
The lawyer representing Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem, Kaminieli Tudravu, told the court yesterday that his client consented to objecting plaintiff’s application to amend the statement of claim subject to a cost of $1000.
This alleged defamation case was filed by Nadi lawyer Adish Kumar Narayan against Saneem, who allegedly made disparaging comments to the media against Mr
Kumar and his law firm, A K Lawyers, in 2020.
The matter was called at the Civil High Court in Lautoka before Judge Justice Mohammed Mackie.
Mr Narayan was represented by Victor Sharma while Mr Tudravu represented Mr Saneem on the instruction of Mitchell Keil Lawyers.
The court heard that Mr Sharma requested time to file the amended statement of claim.
Mr Tudravu told the court he also received instructions from Mitchell Keil Lawyers to request time to file the statement of defence.
Justice Mackie ordered that Mr Sharma file the amended statement of claim within 14 days and Mr Tudravu file the statement of defence thereafter within 7 days.
The matter was adjourned to June 24 for mention.
