The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s rugby head coach Ben Gollings wanted to check out three of our France-based players in this weekend’s HSBC World Sevens Series tournament in Toulouse.

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive confirmed to SUNsports yesterday that former Fijian 7s rep Sevuloni Mocenacagi has been released by his club and is now the 14th player in the squad.

“On whether Sevu plays this weekend is the coach’s call,” O’Connor said.

“Sevu had visited the team and expressed his interest, so the coach told him to get his release from his club, which he did.”

O’Connor said Gollings whated to have a look at the players as they are preparing for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in England, which is from July 28 to August 8.

“We also applied for the release of Sireli Maqala and Jiuta Wainiqolo but they were not given by the clubs. This is because they are playing in the finals of their respective competitions.”

Maqala and Wainiqolo were members of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games gold medal winning team.
