Raralevu gas crematorium

-

Dewan Chand, Suva

I write this open letter to the Raralevu Gas Crematorium Committee, to congratulate and commend them for their fine effort in providing much needed public facilities.

On Monday, May 16, 2022, I attended the cremation ceremony of my friend’s wife in this modern and spacious (600 seating capacity) crematorium. It can cater for the cremation of three bodies at any one time. The crematorium is built on public donations. Their current charges of $700 are economical and affordable by any average family.

While talking to the members of the management committee I discovered that they have plans to increase the seating capacity, provide ample parking space and build a morgue on the site. These are exciting futuristic visions. Travelling to the Raralevu Gas Crematorium is not a problem because the road is now tar sealed. The public needs to support it wholeheartedly.

In my view, it is the best gas crematorium in the country. A similar one needs to be built at Vatuwaqa in Suva. It will help save our mangroves and improve our climate vision.

This is long overdue.
