School supplies worth $15,000 were donated to the Ministry of Education at the Senikau House on May 18.

A total of 104 school bags with stationaries were donated by iEngineering, an Australia-based company with the initiative to support needy children’s access to quality education in Fiji.

The Ministry of Education, Heritage & Arts Permanent Secretary Anjeela Jokhan said that due to the COVID-19 pandemic a number of students had lost access to education globally.

She said it was important for the ministry to support the children in terms of educating the needy children and with the help of donors, it was easier.

“We are overwhelmed with the support and as a ministry, we do take the extra effort provided by donors which makes it easier for us to reach out to needy people,” Ms Jokhan said.

“It’s the little things that matter and make a huge difference for many. Things like bags, stationaries, books add that little extra to intensify children to want to come to school.”

She acknowledged the company for its support in the betterment of Fijian children. She said many organisations and individuals had given to the children of Fiji over the years, it showed that education was important to everyone.

The school supplies will be distributed to the neediest children at the secondary level.
