‘No cyclone to form out-of-season’
There is no possibility of cyclones forming outside the cyclone season. Fiji Meteorological Service Acting Principal Scientific Officer Forecasting, Stephen Meke, said the tropical depression that was moving towards Vanuatu may be the last system for Fiji to experience.
The country’s climatic conditions were expected to be dry from this month onwards and the dry weather will settle in and become cooler too.
Mr Meke said cyclones forming out of season rarely occurred.
He said if the conditions were favourable then the possibility of cyclones may occur, but the current forecast did not suggest so.
He said the current system was yet to form into a tropical cyclone and it did not pose any direct threat to Fiji.
“We expect it to move closer to Vanuatu and away from Fiji and not develop further into a tropical cyclone. josefa.babitu@fijisun.com.fj
