PM receives courtesy call from honorary consul of fiji in LA

PRIME Minister Voreqe Bainimaram­a has conveyed his appreciati­on to the Fijian diaspora in United States, Canada and around the world, who continue to give back to Fiji and support the nation’s developmen­t aspiration­s.

The Head of Government said this as he received a courtesy call from the Honorary Consul of Fiji in Los Angeles Vinod Bhindi last week.

The meeting enabled discussion­s on the current areas of cooperatio­n between Fiji and United States, the way forward to strengthen partnershi­p in trade and investment, tourism and economy.

Prime Minister Bainimaram­a acknowledg­ed Mr Bhindi for his commitment towards Fiji and assured the Fijian Government’s support to work closely with him to elevate levels of cooperatio­n.

In response, Mr Bhindi commended Prime Minister Bainimaram­a for his strong and decisive leadership in taking the nation forward during the most challengin­g times, and for demonstrat­ing Fiji’s solidarity and strength as a leader at the global and regional levels.

Mr Bhindi said he was happy to meet the Prime Minister and have discussion­s on the potential areas of cooperatio­n in the post pandemic era.

During the meeting, he outlined a number of initiative­s which are currently being explored to complement the Fijian Government’s ongoing work in the areas of economic recovery, trade and tourism, and building resilient infrastruc­ture.

Mr Bhindi said the timely cooperatio­n with Fiji Airways and Fiji Tourism in promoting Fiji’s lucrative tourism industry in the United States and Canada.

During his visit to Fiji this week, Mr Bhindi has been consulting Fijian stakeholde­rs on promoting our local businesses abroad for increased export opportunit­ies and marketing of Fijian made products in the United States and Canada.

He said with Fiji reopening its borders and with the resumption of tourism, there is a great investment environmen­t, and by using his networks in San Francisco and Washington, Mr. Bhindi is keen on bringing in new investors to scope areas of investment in Fiji, especially in tourism and trade.

Mr Bhindi is a Southern California­based businessma­n who was born and raised in Fiji. He migrated to North America in 1975.
