- WATI TALEBULA-NUKU SUVA Edited by Losirene Lacanivalu

Jittu Settlement in Samabula, Suva is now a green zone area. This has been confirmed by the Fiji Police Force.

Police have commended residents at the settlement for working with them in changing its crime status from red to a green zone area.

Jittu Settlement was classified as a “red zone” by Police due to the high number of crimes that were committed in the area.

Chief Operations Officer ACP Abdul Khan thanked the residents of Jittu for its decreasing crime rates.

“Looking at the number of reports received from the area concerned there has been a notable decrease compared to previous years. The Station Officer Raiwaqa and her team are working closely with the Crime Prevention Committee consisting of seven zones,” ACP Khan said.

He said offences that they were trying to reduce were grab and run cases.

Jittu Community Policing Chairman Isikeli Rukuni Qaqa said when he became the chairman of the committee in December he told the members that Jittu was a red zone and they needed to work towards making it a green zone.

He said it was a team effort and they were thankful to the Police for its continuous support.

“We were informed 22 days ago that Jittu has become a green zone.”

“We are working with the youths to ensure that they are employed so that they don’t commit offences that would give Jittu a bad name. It’s important that we maintain the green zone mark and work towards making Jittu a safe place for all.”

Mr Qaqa said there were about 3000 households residing at Jittu Settlement.
