Mysterious Valelevu roundabout Suva
Satish Nakched,
The Fiji Roads Authority has informed the public that there are plans to construct a traffic roundabout at Vuya Road and the Queen Elizabeth Drive intersection at Nasese.
In the advisory, the start and completion dates of the project are mentioned, with the temporary traffic management information.
This is a proactive approach so that motorists can prepare and plan their route.
However, this cannot be said for the derangement situation inaugurated at Valelevu, Nasinu.
If you drive along Daniva Road and the junction of Nasinu Road, you will notice three new roundabout signs erected that signal to drivers that you are approaching a traffic roundabout and giving way to your right applies. At the said junction, there is no marking, indication or any oval shape structure that allows manoeuvring to the required direction of travel.
The signs confuse and creates chaos to drivers, whether to treat it as a T intersection, or as a roundabout.
I believe that there are plans to construct one at the location, but the signages were installed prematurely and it may be the style of the Australian Road Standard Management system, which the FRA has probably adapted.
The misapplication of the FRA has institute perplexity and uncertainty at the intersection. In the process, it has created a safety hazard for motorist through stress and agony. This high-risk accident spot must be eliminated, immediately.
