FIJI’S TOURISM SECTOR SET FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR, SAYS TOURISM FIJI CHIEF EXECUTIVE

Fiji’s tourism sector is set for the rest of the year. “We’re looking good right up until the end of the year’, Tourism Fiji chief executive officer, Brent Hill, said yesterday. He was responding to queries about off season preparatio­ns for the sector.This weekend marks another busy occasion for the Western Division, as the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua meet the Gallagher Chiefs this weekend. With a capacity for 12,000 spectators, Lautoka City will be home to a hive of business activities, as fans from around the country – and the region – arrive in support of the two teams. Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimaram­a said Fiji welcomed over 46,000 visitors to Fiji last month. “Fiji is back in business,” he said. “We are welcoming internatio­nal travellers again, and those travellers are showing how much they missed us. “That brings total arrivals this year to over 95,000 thousand. “Looking at numbers since our borders first re-opened, Fiji has received approximat­ely 119,000 visitors to our shores.” Meanwhile, its good news for Nakelo Treasure Island Resort and Spa, as they extend use for their internatio­nal guests who have existing credit accounts. General manager Timoci Saukuru said guests were advised of the extended 12 month period which allowed them to capitalise on their credit payments. The property re-opened on December 19, 2021.
