Finding the right programme to suit your dream career can sometimes take a different turn.

Fresh from high school, Simran Kamal had plans to pursue clinical studies at Fiji School of Medicine.

Plans changed and now she is pursuing Bachelor of Medical Health Science (BMHS) at the University of Fiji.

She too is amongst the first lot of students enrolled in the new programme.

“Although I had other plans, I find this programme interesting too,” she said.

“I am currently the class representative for the year one and two students of this programme so I still have a lot of things to learn.”

The BMHS programme is designed to address the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, the saturation of Doctors

(MBBS graduates) in Fiji, the impact of TELS on the MBBS programme and to provide a platform for those passionate about medicine and health science.

University of Fiji stated the BMHS qualification will equip graduates for post-graduate MD qualifications after completion and be future ready in medicine and health sciences.

Her passion for the medical field comes from her interests in biology.

She said biology was interesting because of the you get to discover new things and learn about new cells in the body.

“My family has been strong supporters towards my education so I plan to study hard and fulfill my goals.”

Her only challenge is adjusting to the new environment in UniFiji compared

to high school.
