United States-based Mulan Kamoe caused a major upset when she defeated her elder sister Tarani Kamoe in the Open Women’s Single final of the 2022 Tattslotto Fiji Open Tennis Championship at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club yesterday.

Mulan who is ranked number two claimed two straight sets (6 -2, 6-4) to claim the victory as she finally avenged her semi-final loss in 2016 at the same venue.

She just kept to hit towards her back end and then made a lot of points with her serves as well.

“It was like a rematch from 2016 that we faced each other and I lost during the semifinals.

“But it was good. Like there was no pressure because she’s older than me and we’ve played before.”

The 22-year-old student at the Henderson State is in for a summer break and will return in August.

In the open men’s final, Australia-based Benjamin Pechan of Vanuatu beat Benjamin Junior of Solomon Islands (6-3, 7-6).

Open women doubles: Mulan Kamoe/Tarani Kamoe beat Ruby Coffin/Josephine Debalevu (6-0, 6-4).

Open men’s double: Noah Molbaleh/ Zachary Sands beat Krishneel Kumar/ Kishan Raju (6-2, 6-2). Edited by Leone Cabenatabua
