Jane takes on late dad’s life teachings of good principles
Jane Lind Olive Naua may have lost her father, but she still carries with her his life teachings of good principles. That has translated to making her a responsible child, hardworking, dedicated, loving, caring and humble.
Those traits earned the 13-year-old a senior prefect badge during the Dudley Intermediate School induction at the school on May 20, 2022, at Eden St, Toorak, Suva.
The badge signifies the leadership qualities she carries on since her father’s death. She was seven years old when he died of cancer.
Her mother, Lusia Vasiti Holmes, was close to tears recalling the hardship she faced in raising her children.
The mother of seven children said her husband left behind good life principles that had to be carried forward.
“He was a very supportive father. She is like her father who never missed work and said his children were the reason why he went to work every day to invest in their education,” Ms Holmes said.
“Whether Jane takes roti and butter or simply gulgulas, she makes sure she goes to school on a daily basis and always tries to be the first person in school.
“She was like the second mother to all the younger siblings and at a very young age Jane has been able to change diapers, nurture her younger siblings when I am not there or when I am busy doing something.”
Young Jane aspires to join the medical field but strong influence from her aunt and uncle who are lawyers, and her faith in God, have diverted her thoughts to study law.
For Jane, being badged as a senior prefect means motivating young people.
“I am excited to be badged the senior prefect,” she said.
“It will help me be confident, self-reliant, honest, be a good role model to the younger ones in my church and the community.”
