Leaders, put God first and the rest will follow. These were the words of head boy Ratu Manoa Kaiyanuyanu, 18, during the Natabua High School prefects investiture ceremony in Lautoka last Friday.

Ratu Manoa said he only managed to achieve his dream of becoming a leader because of his parents’ humble upbringing.

He aspires to become a church pastor and do missionary work.

Being the oldest of three siblings allowed him to adapt to being a leader and this was where his leadership journey started.

“My leadership journey started

from day one as being the eldest in the family which carries its own set of responsibilities,” he said.

“Everything starts from home and therefore I would like to acknowledge my parents and family for my humble upbringing.

“This year, we, the student council will help to raise the standards of this institution to greater heights in all spheres of education whether it be academic, sports or the creative arts – as the school motto says ‘in scien’tia fortitudo’ literally translated as ‘in knowledge lies strength’”.

The Vunisea Village lad of Saivou district, Ra Province was badged head prefect alongside head girl, Inayah Ali, 18.

Inayah said she wouldn’t be taking her role lightly.

Becoming the head girl is the opportunity for her to inculcate values, discipline and harmony in the lives of others and to also lead by example.

“With the spirit of team work we can take our school soaring to new heights,” she said.

Inayah encouraged the leaders to do their work with immense passion and devotion.

She aspires to become a doctor. Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum officiated at the event.

The A-G urged student leaders to leave a legacy behind as being a great leader.

He also reiterated to the students on speaking the truth.

A total of 125 school prefects were inducted.

The school has a roll of 1100 students.
