Resort staff members dedicate time, resources to sustain environment
About 50 staff members of the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort are dedicating part of their time to sustaining the resort’s surroundings.
The Coral Coast-based resort has dedicated the month of June to celebrate World Oceans Month by planting mangroves, plants, cleaning the beach and ensuring the environment and ocean continues to be protected and safe for the future generation.
The resort’s guest experience manager, Salote Naisua said the staff, guests and community members were keen to assist in the month’s programme.
Ms Naisua said it was not new for the resort staff to be involved in environmental activities, but just a continuation of work done to safeguard the environment and coastal area.
The activities will also involve 30 students from the Organisation for Industrial, Spiritual, Cultural and Advancement (OISCA).
“Outrigger group prides itself in focusing on the ozone and environment and is always looking
for ways we can help sustain our surroundings therefore this is an initiative for our Outrigger Hospitality Group,” she said.
“On June 17 we will be planting 400 seeds of mangroves with youths from Korotogo Village and the students from OISCA to help sustain our environment.”
The resort was pleased to have received the same amount of support from the villagers in the area.
The activities for the month of June will include weekly beach cleanup activities for the management and guests, coral planting activity every Wednesday by the management team, daily removal
of crown of thorns starfish and also project an ocean movie at the resort’s Baravi Lawn for individuals.
There is also a World Oceans Month banner below the resort sign at the main entrance, an ocean themed cocktail for the month of June, paint frames which guests can purchase and have World Oceans Month polo shirts for sale at the hotel shop.
“We are committed and excited to be doing all this,” Ms Naisua added.
