Avanish was adjudged the performer of the year and this was the second time in a row. He had become the apple of the eye not only of his department but also of the entire organization and while this was happening there were a few others who seemed to have gotten extremely disappointed with the result. One of them was his colleague but from a different department and her name was Monisha. She was a very hard working employee and was known for her overall sincerity towards the job and for being extremely punctual with regards to arriving to office on time. Hence she was all the more unhappy to have not gotten the Best Performer Award. It was a Friday afternoon and after work Monisha left her office a tad bit disappointed. She wanted some time for herself away from the crowd. She was not just depressed but also angry at not winning the award. “Why only Avnish gets the award all the time” she grumbled to herself. She was at a café having coffee when she noticed one of her professors from the college where she had done her MBA.He too saw her and came up to say hello and that is when he also saw that Monisha was looking quite depressed and unhappy. He sat and inquired about her and asked her what was wrong. After the initial hesitation she opened up. “Sir, I have been working for a wonderful organization and everyone knows how good and sincere I have been about my work. My own boss keeps praising me and tells me about how good I am at my work and yet I have not been able to win the best performer award. To add to this one of my colleagues has won it twice and I know for sure that I could have won it too” Saying this she sipped the coffee and sat quiet. The professor had taught her Management and Marketing subjects while she was studying her MBA in Australia. He had subsequently retired and returned to Suva. He realized that she was extremely unhappy and that she

needed some positive guidance. That is when he shared some interesting and useful perspectives with her. He ordered two more cups of coffee and began speaking to Monisha.“The first thing I wish to tell you is that although you haven’t won the award this year remember that there is an excellent opportunity the next year and if you can try applying a few points which I will be sharing right now with you I am extremely confident that you are going to be the winner” Upon hearing these words Monisha’s eyes began to sparkle and looking at her Professor she gave a big smile. She was feeling more positive now than before especially because there was someone who was proactively going to give her some important advice. As they sipped the coffee the professor started explaining.
