Taveuni nurse case file sent to resident magistrate for inquest
The case file of a nurse, who administered an injection to a woman, allegedly causing her death has been, forwarded to the resident magistrate for inquest.
This was confirmed by the Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro yesterday.
The complainant was Mohammed Sarif, a 41-year-old market vendor in Labasa who has been seeking justice since November 29, 2021.
He claimed his wife, Shereen Buksh, left Labasa to attend a birthday celebration at Burotu, Taveuni, on November 19, 2021.
“When she informed her parents that she was having fever on November 22, they called a nurse who was like a family friend to help her get better,” Mr Sarif said.
“According to my 11-year-old son, he saw how the nurse came home to give an injection in the presence of the grandparents and later Shereen got admitted on Taveuni Island hospital.”
From there she was transferred to Labasa Hospital where she died after a few days.
“For seven months I have been visiting relevant authorities until I posted on social media (Facebook) last Sunday, a Police officer gave me an advisory letter the following day,” he said.
He said the letter stated that the case would be forwarded to the resident magistrate on Tuesday for inquest since the Police can’t find any foul play.
“I would continue to fight for justice for the sake of my son who is still asking me where his mother is,” he added.
