Macuata, a step away from the major union

-

Physical, mental and spiritual fitness coupled with a vibrant club competition was the platform Macuata rugby had maximised on to reach the Vodafone Vanua Championship semifinal.

This was the gist of Macuata Rugby Union president Ratu Maikali Dimuri’s message during an interview with SUNsports yesterday.

“This has to go with proper planning,” the former national rugby triallist said.

“Our club competition continued despite our weekly participation in the Vodafone Vanua Championship. This is crucial for our development; it warrants discipline.”

Ratu Maikali said the current MRU executives were now into their final term of engagement; their mission was to steer Macuata return to the next Skipper Fiji Rugby Championship season.

Ratu Maikali highlighted that they have a good set of players in

the squad and a couple of them are civil servants based in Labasa.

Macuata take on Ba in the first semifinal on Saturday at Subrail Park, Labasa; followed by the Bua versus Yasawa showdown at 3pm.

The winners automatically qualify to the major union and will play in next season’s Skipper Fiji Rugby Championship.
