Late night eatery now open for Lautoka residents
Residents in Lautoka can now get a tasty meal of fish and chips late at night, either as take-away or sit in.
That’s because Frankies Fish and Chips is now open for business at 53 Drasa Avenue Rd.
The new eatery is owned by the former Commander West Community Policing, Faiaaz Ali, and it’s located opposite the Lautoka Police Station.
So, the safety of customers is well covered. Frankie is Mr Ali’s youngest son.
The 55-year-old businessman from
Yalalevu in Ba said he had always been in the food business. He is married with four children and has been living in Lautoka since 1993.
Mr Ali said the area where he operated from previously, also in Drasa Avenue Rd, proved unsafe for many of his female customers.
Since the opening of his $30,000 business two weeks ago, he has seen more female customers walking in.
“It was usually seen that men would come and buy food while their wives stayed inside their locked cars,” Mr Ali said.
“At the location I am at now, I can see that women feel safer to walk into the shop and, it is a spacious area, which is quite helpful.”
Through Government’s initiative, he was able to start off his business.
“I assessed the Lautoka District and after midnight, people don’t get food so if people are hungry after midnight, we are here ready to serve them,” he added.
The head chef is Jai Prakash, who was a head chef at one of Fiji’s prestigious resorts. The eatery is open from 7.30am until 2am the next day.
Fish and Chips meals are $5 each, any chicken dish costs $7 while lamb is $8 a serve and fish $9 a serve. Barbecue orders range from $8 to $12.
Mr Ali has employed seven people at Frankies Fish and Chips.
