- SAMPRAS ANAND LABASA Edited by Jeremiah Ligairi

Women in the district of Vaturova in Cakaudrove, Vanua Levu, have agreed to build a district house for its people.

The motion was agreed to at a meeting in Ravita Village, Vaturova, Cakaudrove, last Friday. It was attended by more than 200 women from the 12 villages in the district – Korotasere, Domokavu, Vaturomulo, Nayarabale, Seavaci, Lekutulevu, Nakuku, Vatukuca, Wavu, Korokoli, Vanuavou and Ravita.

Na Soqosoqo Vakamarama iTaukei Cakaudrove president, Adi Salaseini Kavu Fong, said this was an exciting time for the women’s group in Vaturova in terms of enhancing their capacity-building motive.

The district house will be based at Korotasere Village. It will be used to accommodate public members who have relatives admitted at the Korotasere Health Centre. It will also create a safe resting place for visitors or guests who wish to, or later on, continue their journey to Savusavu, Labasa, or the upper districts of Cakaudrove.

Also present at the meeting was the Tui Vaturova and former Divisional Commissioner Northern, Jovesa Vocea.

Ms Fong said the strategic location of Korotasere would initiate a potential increase in economic opportunities for women and the young generation.

They have made plans to raise funds and look for a potential donor to support their construction project.

The president of the women’s group in Vaturova, Nanise Ranadi, believes women are equal contributors to society and commends the idea of the district house adding that it will harbour the public’s best interests.
