Banuve out of the Games

Sprint king Banuve Tabakaucor­o finished fifth in his 100 metres heat clocking 10.65 seconds at the 2022 Commonweal­th Games now held at Birmingham, United Kingdom on Tuesday.

That was his only event and last run as he did not qualify for the semifinals.

Tabakaucor­o’s missing out on the top two spots has been taken by Nigeria and England to the next round.

Nigeria’s Favour Ashe finished first with a time of 10.12 while Mitchell Blake of England came in second clocking a time of 10.14s.

Lawn bowls ladies did not have a good outing with one win and two losses at Victoria Park, Leamington Spa.

Ladies triple Loreta Kotoisuva, Sheral Mar and Radhika Prasad beat Malaysia 17-14 earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, in the adies double Losalini Tukai and Litia Tikoisuva lost to Scotland 16-13.

The fours consisting of Kotoisuva, Mar, Prasad and Tukai lost to New Zealand 17-6.

At the Sandwell Aquatics Centre swimmers Hansel McCaig, David Young and Epeli Rabua swam in the Heat 5 of the men’s 50 metres freestyle.

McCaig clocked 23.29 seconds coming in 18th in a field of 71 swimmers, Young clocked 23.62 secs to be listed 23rd and Rabua’s time of 24.88 sec placed him at 48.

Cheyenne Rova swam in the 50m breaststro­ke Heat 2. She clocked 32.34 seconds to finish 25th of the 38 swimmers that took part.

Fiji did not start in the mixed 4 X 100 medley relay.

Judo was held at the Covertry Arena. Shanice Takayawa lost to England’s Katie-Jemima Yeats-Brown 0-10 in her 70kg Games debut.

Yeats-Brown won by ippon to Takayawa.

In her repechage match, Takayawa lost to Joy Asonye of Nigeria.

Asonye won by ippon.

Meanwhile about 6500 competitor­s and officials from 72 nations and territorie­s are participat­ing in the 22nd Commonweal­th Games.

It is the biggest multi-sport event to be held in the UK since the 2012 London Olympics.
