Labasa Sangam Triumphs
The Peni Raicula captainedLabasa Sangam Kuppuswamy Memorial (SKM) College football side scooped the Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial Trophy 2022 at Penang Sangam High School ground in Rakiraki on Tuesday.
The Labasa Sangam side beat Penang Sangam High School 2-1, hammered Ba Sangam College 3-0 and edged Nadi’s SSKMC 1-0 in a round robin competition.
Team head coach Ashneel Prasad thanked the players and management for their dedication, which resulted in their unbeaten run.
“Our players were injured but we managed to perform. It was a great match and it’s good to come over the Bligh Waters and win this title,” Prasad said.
“This is one of our exciting moments, not forgetting the support from our principal Ishwar Prasad and the school management.
“They provided great support throughout the entire tournament. We expected to come out stronger next year and defend our title.”
The side had four Fijian Under-17 reps like Salimone Ravonokula, Avish Pyare Nath, Peni Raicula and Dan Steiner.
Also among them were Under-19 reps like Rivansh Reddy, Shivnesh Sami, and Raunak Kumar who are part of the Labasa football district team.
