Long Serving Staff Credits FDB for Career Growth
The success of a company is measured in the success of its employees. Through various trainings and assistance for career growth, Sharda Nand is a testament to the Fiji Development Bank’s investment in its employees.
Mr Nand is the Manager Credit Risk & Approval (Corporate) and has served 33 years for FDB.
His role involves making timely credit decisions are made in compliance with policy guidelines for each product.
He also maintains adequate monitoring for the tenure of the loan.
“Assist my General Manager in compiling credit papers for executive decisions and support respective teams in the introduction of new products by implementing risk aspects.”
From humble beginning, he was a Loans Officer with bank’s Agriculture Loans Department at Head Office.
He said it was a fitting job for a fresh graduate out of the Fiji College of Agriculture.
“After a short stay at the Head Office, I spent 10 years at Labasa Branch,” he said.
“Reports were generally handwritten or typed using carbon papers for branch copy.
“Experienced Bank’s assistance in the agriculture and fishing sector and expansion of cane schemes.”
FDB has created equal opportunities for its staff to upgrade their qualifications which Mr Nand was part of.
Through FDB’s assistance, Mr Nand upgraded his academic qualification and external training provided under Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP).
“Had the opportunity of being part of the team for various new products and departments such as Leasing, Choice Home Loan, Micro Loans, Corporate Loan (Relationship Manager and Credit Manager) and working with the Green Climate Fund Team.”
Mr Nand describes FDB as the only development bank that has been successful in the growth of the focus sectors such as agriculture as per the National Development Plan.
He said FD has dynamic staff and products, is strategically located throughout the country.
“And is innovative in terms of technology which has resulted in easy access to credit online. An accredited national entity for Green Climate Fund.
“Total credit goes to the Bank for nurturing me and my success is attributed to FDB.”
