Business grows through FDB support
Ideally located in the heart of Ba Town, Sams Car Wash has become a popular choice for drivers.
The business started by owner Shyam Narayan in 2013.
Sams Car Wash has steadily grown its customer base because of the quality of customer service.
“I established the business with my own capital.
“At first, it wasn’t performing well but eventually picked up after almost two and a half years.”
However, he faced a major setback in 2016 when all his equipment was destroyed due to flash flooding.
“Back then I had thought that was the end but then the Fiji Development Bank (FDB) stepped in to provide an affordable financial solution for my business to get back on track.
“I obtained a loan of $3,500 from FDB with a repayment of $150 per month.
“Through this, I purchased the equipment, restarted the business and have never looked back since then.”
Narayan further expanded his operations last year through another loan provided by FDB.
He purchased additional water blasters and other equipment.
“For this, I must acknowledge the Fijian Government and the Bank for giving importance to small businesses.
“I did start on my own but it is through the Government and FDB that I have become successful.”
Mr Narayan provided temporary employment opportunities to families who lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Many people lost their jobs and businesses were not doing well and I was worried that the same would be the case for my small business as well but to my surprise, it was the opposite,” he said.
Sams Car Wash has two full-time employees and provided employment to some students for pocket money.
