Implementation is more important than acquisition

Ravin was one of those people who had a fetish for perfumes.Whenever he would visit the shopping malls he would purchase at least a couple of them for himself. At times he would also get these wonderful fragrances for his friends and relatives, especially when he travelled overseas. On one occasion he brought a perfume which was, at that time, not only the best but also one of the most expensive ones in the world. He had got it for his close friend,Amarjeet as it was his 40th birthday.“Hey bro, thank you for this special gift. I am going to use it especially for all the special occasions” he passionately said to Ravin.

A few months had passed by and all these friends met again for another friend’s promotion party. As they were chatting with one another Ravin looked towards Amarjeet and asked,“Hey Amarjeet, how are you” “Hey bro, I am good” he replied. Ravin continued, “Amarjeet, I was keen to know if that perfume I had got for you is really good? I plan to get the same one for my cousin for his upcoming birthday. I just wish to know your honest feedback about this perfume”. Ravin asked anxiously. Hearing this,Amarjeet suddenly became silent. He actually looked a bit embarrassed as well. He then looked towards Ravin and nervously responded, “Bro, I am really sorry. I have not actually used it till now” Ravin was a bit surprised. “Oh ok bro. That’s okay. But, is it because you did not like it or was there any other reason?” he asked.“No bro. It is just that after you gifted me the perfume I kept it in my cupboard, but somehow I never remembered to use it. I am really sorry Ravin. I hope you aren’t hurt or something!” Amarjeet replied reluctantly.“No, I am not really hurt but I am only wondering why you did not spray a perfume at least to see how it was.All you had to do was open the cap and spray!!!” Ravin replied with a half-smile.

Well! If you think the above scenario is actually about the perfume, it is absolutely not! It is something that relates to us and our attitude about not making use of things that are supposed to be good for us and our professional and personal development. More specifically I wish to share something about those people who attend various seminars, training programs and conferences as participants and still, despite having learnt amazing techniques and skills will not use or implement them at their work place or in their personal life.
