I’m not the greatest player, says Tuwai

-

I have always told my wife, my close family, mom and dad, that my career and life will rest on God and only he will tell me when its time and only then I will say its time.

Fiji Airways Fijian 7s star Jerry Tuwai still doesn’t regard himself as the greatest 7s rugby player despite winning the most prestigious Olympic Gold medal twice, three World Rugby Sevens Series title, five Hong Kong 7s titles, World Rugby 7s player of the Decade in 2019 and recently bagging World Cup in South Africa.

Tuwai said there are other sevens players around the world who have made a lot of impact at the World Stage including Fijian 7s players such as the great Waisale Serevi and Tomasi Cama.

Tuwai said “I’m not the greatest player in Fiji or the world, like people are saying. I think if I played another 100 years then I can be the greatest player in the world but now I cannot say I’m the greatest player.”

Tuwai added that by winning the World Cup he had proved a lot of odds wrong and thanked the Head Coach Ben Gollings and his team for trusting him.

He highlighted “It’s new but its been a long time coming and I’m really thankful to Fiji Rugby for believing in me and to coach Ben Gollings for also believing in me.

“Some say I’m old now and too old to play but I’m very much thankful to the coach and assistant coach Viliame Satala for believing in me; what I can do with my brothers.”

He said for now he has no plans to retire.

“I have always told my wife, my close family, mom and dad that my career and life will rest on God and only. He will tell me when its time and only then I will say its time.”
