Lal clarifies function of Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service at workshop
Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) is a statutory organisation established under the Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Act 2014 to administer Fijian Government scholarships and study loans.
TSLS chief executive officer Hasmukh Lal highlighted this during the principals and career teachers’ workshop at Civic Centre in Labasa on Friday.
He said during a board meeting this week he had presented their customer survey report.
“Through this survey I found out that more people in Fiji know TSLS as Tertiary Education Loan Scheme (TELS),” Mr Lal said.
“TELS is not a service product, it is a study loan; we also provide scholarships.”
He said this was one of the reasons they organised this awareness workshop for the principals and career teachers in Fiji so that they can disseminate the right information to their students.
“They (career teachers and principals) are the better agents of change in school who can advise the students making career choices,” he said.
“TSLS is responsible for ensuring transparent and accountable management of government funding provided for all the schemes of scholarships and study loans.”
In doing this, TSLS focuses on achieving the best educational outcomes for Fiji and ensuring that funding spent on scholarships and loans will result in building the human capital.
Participants have been advised about the TSLS 2023 community awareness handbook which is available to provide all prospective students and also the members of the public on various schemes of scholarships and study loans available for 2023 academic year.
