Ba reps target to win IDC title
Xavier College’s Lavenia Nairoqo, Asela Cokanasiga and Mereseini Waqali were part of the Ba women’s football team that thrashed Suva 7-2 during the Digicel Women’s Interdistrict Championship at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori, yesterday.
They have been with the Ba football team right from age group level and vowed to put up a gallant effort to secure the title.
“We’re hopeful that this title comes to Ba again,” Nairoqo said.
The Nadrala, Nadroga, native also played in the Weet-Bix Raluve Trophy championship and also took part in this year’s Coca-Cola Games.
Cokanasiga, is another hard working player while Waqali, who hails from Toge in Ba, plays goalkeeper and was in the Fiji Secondary Schools competition where she took out the Golden Glove award.
“I played goalkeeper since 2019 after playing in the backs,” she said.
“I’m expecting the IDC to be tough as the nation’s top players are playing but then again we have a great team as well.”
Ba is in Pool B along with Suva, Tailevu/Naitasiri,
and Nadi.
Defending champions Labasa is in a tough pool as they face Rewa, Nadroga and Navua.
The semi-finals and final will be played during the Ram’s Cleaning Services Pacific Community Cup 2022 which will be played at Prince Charles Park in Nadi from November 24-27.
Meanwhile, Labasa and Rewa played to a 1-1 draw.
Nadroga wins opener
The Nadroga women’s football team opened its 2022 Digicel Women’s Interdistrict Championship with a 2-0 win over Navua at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori, yesterday.
After a scoreless first half, Nadroga’s Elenoa Tuvoutua drew first blood in the 63rd minute before Mereoni Tiqe slammed in the second goal.
Tabua double sink Nadi
Kasanita Tabua was toast of the Tailevu/Naitasiri side scoring twice in its 2-0 win over Nadi yesterday.
She scored the opening goal of the Digicel Women’s Interdistrict Championship in the 8th minute as they led 1-0 at halftime. Tabua slotted in the second goal in the 82nd minute.
