Fijians will now be able to watch and get information on the 2022 General Election on an exclusive Walesi Channel.

Channel 14 on the Walesi platform was launched yesterday by the Supervisor of Election, Mohammed Saneem.

The exclusive Walesi Channel cost FEO $25,000.

The channel is set to provide an alternative for the Fijian Elections Office (FEO) on ways to disseminate election information to the voters.

“The Channel 14 that we are launching will be an exclusive channel where the FEO will be placing its own advertising material and content that voters will need to know in order to participate in the 2022 General Election,” Mr Saneem said. Mr Saneem said the venture would not stop FEO from advertising with media outlets.

The exclusive channel would only showcase FEO materials and would not showcase political advertisement.

“This does not mean they will be taking off advertisements from the current media platforms,” Mr Saneem said.

“But this is our venture going into having an exclusive television station so we are able to put FEO materials with prominence and the ability for the voters to go to an apolitical channel where there is no political advertising.” “We will not be allowing any political content on this, all the content that will be placed, will be purely from the Fijian Elections Office, it will be generated by us, we have hours and hours of content.”

Mr Saneem remarked that FEO also saw the need for the FEO to market the national candidate list across the country.

Meanwhile, 795,000 people are on the Walesi platform while a little more than 200,000 have been using the platform, the channel will air until the election period ends.
