Balance Out Resources: Chaudhry

- NICOLETTE CHAMBERS BA Feedback: nicolette.chambers@

Fiji Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, said Government needs to be fair and balance out resources.

Mr Chaudhry was speaking to the villagers in Nasolo in Ba during his campaign with other candidates in the Ba area on Thursday.

He told the residents and supporters that Fiji’s Western Division was the main contributor to the national economy.

He said but a lot of areas were left neglected.

“Also provinces like Naitasiri, Tailevu and outer islands there are too many resources put into one sector, tourism, but I think there has got to be balance,” said Mr Chaudhry.

“I think it is unfair to the people because tourism serves certain sections of the country and what about the others? What about Vanua Levu? Government is not investing anything there. “Grow agriculture there to

provide opportunities to the people, there’s a lot of potential there, there is a lot happening.”

Mr Chaudhry added the reason people in the rural areas were shifting to the urban areas was because there was zero economic activity taking place in the rural areas.

“There is no investment there, they have not created rural hubs to keep the people close,” he added.

“All these need to be reviewed and reversed. This is how the FijiFirst Government has run the country.”

Responses:

Mr Chaudhry said he was however content with the positive feedback he had received from his supporters around the country.

“I am very happy with the responses from the people. I think there is a very overwhelming feeling. People are suffering with the cost of living,” he said.

“There has to be a change, I think about 16 years has been too long, they have gotten rich and the people have gotten poor.”
