Visiting teams make clean sweep
The visiting teams had a field day on the first day of the 13th Ultimate Fiji Soccer Cup which got underway in two west venues on Wednesday. Australian –based Kiama FC Boys defeated Lautoka 2-0 at the
Lautoka Central Primary School, Central Coast Sports College U12 team defeated a resilient Nadi 3-0 at the Nadi Sangam Primary School ground, the IFG Australia Girls Youth overpowered Nadi 4-0 and the final match saw IFG Australia Boys U12 sneak past Ba 1-0 at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba.
The locals showed some brilliance but they were not good enough to get them victory.
For Kiama, they were happy with their win which they worked hard to break the opposition.
The Nadi goalkeeper might have had an outstanding game, making vital saves in the first half but energy ran out against the persistence of the Central Coast Sports
College to pile up points.
One point better at the breather, Central Coast continued to pressure in the second half to record two more goals.
Coach Brad Porter with their effort.
“They kept to the game plan and were rewarded for their solid first up display,” Porter said.
The IFG Australia girls were clinical when it mattered, Eliza Familton found good space down the right flank, she was a constant threat.
Amira Shalak controlled the midfield and Goalkeeper Madeline Angels marshalled her defence. Goalkeeper Oliver Scotti-Clark enjoyed playing inside the larger goals for the first time.
The Australian players had predominantly started with smaller fields and goals up to 12 years and at this tournament they tested themselves on the full field.
The transition can take some time but Scott-Clark’s distribution was sound and he motivated his defence when Ba attacked.
