Love for Cooking Motivates Prasad

- SALOTE QALUBAU LAUTOKA Edited by Jonathan Bryce

Tanoa Waterfront Hotel, Lautoka head chef, Krish Prasad, says his love for cooking at a young age motivated him to choose his current career path.

“I had always been intrigued by cooking and how food is always presented, mainly inspired by mom and my dad, who both are excellent cooks, always helping people out to cook food during prayers or small functions,” he said.

The 33-year-old Lovu, Lautoka resident and former Natabua High School student said he has about 13 staff members working under him, and with Christmas only a few days away, he said that usually meant it was all hands on deck.

Mr Prasad was educated at the Training Productivity Authority of Fiji (TPAF) before taking up his current post and spending 12 years in the industry.

“I have been in Tanoa since I graduated from TPAF, I have had numerous opportunities to go and work elsewhere, but there were many opportunities to grow within Tanoa, so I started in Tanoa as an attaché and worked my way up to being a head chef,” he said.

He said it was for this reason that he chose to do Food Tech as one of his subjects in School.

“Challenges I faced is that being in this industry is very demanding and changing; you have to sacrifice your family gatherings and functions,” he said.

“You will miss most of the holidays, but it does not affect us chefs, as we are doing what we love in serving our guests the best food possible and seeing their happy reactions after each meal is what drives us to come to work every day.”

Over the Christmas weekend, Tanoa will have attractive specials.

“Come down and experience these amazing dishes,” he said.

The New Year’s Eve party will include a live charcoal Barbeque and drink specials with the annual fireworks display.
