Love Always Finds a Way, Say Lawyer-Doctor Power Couple
Peniasi Cavuduadua and Tenga Paueli come from different backgrounds but this, as it usually is the case for couples, has complemented their love for one another. The couple tied the knot on December 3 in an elaborate wedding at the Vodafone Arena. Peni, as he is known is 28 years old and from Tobuniqio in Vugalei, Tailevu, with maternal links to Nukufetau Island in Tuvalu.
Tenga, also 28, is from the islands of Nanumaga and Nukufetau in Tuvalu with maternal links to Hofve’a, Itu ti’u, Rotuma.
Their journey
They found each other in 2020 during the Fiji Day celebrations in Tuvalu. For Peni, he had his eyes locked on Tenga the whole time. Their journey has not always been easy but as the lawyer and doctor power-couple say, ‘love always finds a way’.
They come from different traditional backgrounds and still these differences have complemented one another.
So what is a ‘big day’ without asking the permission father of the woman you want to marry? Tenga asked.
She recalled how it was probably the toughest day of Peni’s life who called her on her night shift in a panicked mode.
Tenga assured him that it was all going to be alright.
Carrying his heart in his hand, Peni waited outside Tenga’s father’s office until he found courage to ask the big question. “He was trying to untangle the knot he had in his stomach,” she said.
“My dad is no walk in the park. Our upbringing was strict and dad always had expectations.”
Peni said: “I assured myself ‘it’s ok Peni, even though you might end up in ICU but as long as you believe in what you want, love always prevails in the end’. “Tenga’s father gave his blessing and Peni walked out of this office with his head held high still shocked that he walked out without a scratch,” Peni said laughing.
Although Fiji will always be in their hearts, their homeland in Tuvalu is where they will settle.
“We want similar things in life which now is to start on an adventure together in this married life , start our own family and to pursue further accomplishments in our professions,” explained Tenga.
“Organsing this wedding was a challenge especially with us being in Tuvalu and trying to get wedding vendors and stuff done in Fiji.
“Thankfully we had the biggest support from our families in Fiji sorting logistics and preparing whatever we needed from Tuvalu.
“We thank our bosses for approving our leave despite the
COVID-19 situation and with the
Tuvalu Election
(next year) which required our presence.”
