Awoman who collapsed in Suva City was able to regain consciousness, thanks to the quick action of Fiji Sun finance officer Sakeasi Namasia. Mr Namasia who is also the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Committee chairman was making his way home on the afternoon of December 21 when he noticed a crowd gathering near the Suva Market Police Post.

He said he couldn’t figure out what the chaos was about, but when he made his way to the spot, he saw a woman in her late 30s lying unconscious. He quickly applied his first aid knowledge to help the women.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the reaction of people who were gathered around as if no one cared about her life, but were rather making videos. I quickly grabbed the woman from the back and straightened her feet and requested all to clear the way for air,” Mr Namasia said.

“It took around five to 10 minutes for the lady to gain conscious and I tried to ask about her details and see if she was all good and fit to go, but she seemed to be lost so I requested the Police transport the woman, but unfortunately they didn’t have one.

“So we had to get a taxi to take her to hospital where she was taken to the emergency room.”

Mr Namasia said he was happy to have used his knowledge to save a life. He is urging the public to react in the right manner in such situations.

“I couldn’t manage to get the woman’s details, but I’m glad I was able to help her.

“First aid knowledge is very important because we never know what will happen around us. People should be careful in such situations and try to help save lives rather than making videos.

“I am also very blessed that I can be the hand and feet of Jesus to save someone’s life in the community,” he said.
