2022 Marked Breakthrough Developments for Savusavu Municipality
There is a reasonable number of encouraging developments that eventuated this year for the Savusavu Town municipality. The construction and opening of the Silversun Children’s Park and children’s park bure (August 4) along with the Nakama hot springs project (August 2)
Town Council chief executive officer, Seema Dutt, said these developments were important projects that were completed on time with residents able to enjoy these services now.
Ms Dutt said the new Savusavu municipal market construction project is on schedule to meet the one-year completion deadline.
The council’s implementation of the seven per cent discount for rate payments from August 1 to October 31 also worked wonders in recovering funds.
In this period, a sufficient number of new rates and previous arrears were recovered.
The council’s ratepayer numbers also increased from 578 to 634 residents after some subdivisional housing developments took place.
The council in collaboration with the Savusavu Chamber of Commerce and Industries also organised its first-ever night markets during Easter and Christmas weekends. A compactor truck is also expected to be provisioned to the council to enhance its garbage collection capabilities.
Council adopts online platforms to address issues
Ms Dutt said the council also used social media platforms by creating a public-council open Viber account which allowed residents to raise their concerns and clarification of its services. Requests were made via this platform from residents related to timely drainage cleaning, lawning works and other minor council projects.
“If there is a need for service improvement, they directly contact us on this platform,” she said.
