Head boy and head girl prepared for new roles.
Former head teacher Ledua Niubalavu has urged Saint Teresa Catholic School prefects in Ba to lead with love, respect and humility.
Mr Niubalavu, who is also Christ the King Parish Council chairman, reminded them to “respect teachers, elders, parents and children.
“If you respect them, they are going to respect you; respect everyone,” he said.
Twenty-eight school prefects were inducted on Wednesday, with 22 being school prefects and six as head prefects.
The school was established in 1930. It has roll of 600 inclusive of the Early Childhood Education students.
As a head teacher for more than 20 years, Mr Niubalavu told the students to trust God at all times before making any decision.
Head prefects ready to lead
Head girl Aanya Sharma, 12, said being inducted into her new role was a goal she had finally accomplished.
The oldest of three siblings from Varadoli, Ba was one of 28 school prefects inducted on Wednesday.
“I’m really excited because this has been an aim of mine for a long time,” Aanya said.
“I have always seen how prefects inspire and help students at the school. I was a prefect in Year Two.
“I plan to try and help students and try to get them to listen to teachers a bit more, to inspire and be a role model for them.”
She dedicated her achievement to her parents whom she credited for her success.
“They’ve worked hard and always helped me through my tough times in school whenever I’m faced challenges. They also celebrated all my successes,” she said.
Head boy Kavi Lad, 13, said he was well aware of the responsibility which rested on the shoulders of school prefects.
“It feels good and I am inspired by the words I have heard today (Wednesday). I was a prefect in Year Seven, but I know that I have to lead by example now,” he said. The deputy head boy is Makario Cama, deputy head girl is Connie Saukuru and the assistant head boy is Arrush Krishna while assistant head girl is Mary Ratucove.
