Gukisuva Remembered as the ‘Life of Events’ and a ‘Family Man’
The late Ligavatu Gukisuva was remembered as a person who lived life to the fullest and exuded positive energy.
His wife, Annie Gukisuva, described him as a devoted family man.
Hundreds of people attended the celebration of Liga’s life at the Vodafone Arena, dressed in bright colors.
Liga as he was commonly known passed away on April 11 at the age of 47. He was a well-known public relations and marketing specialist, as well as a former radio host.
He hailed from Vanuavatu in Lau, with maternal links to Sila, Cuvu, Nadroga. According to his wife, Liga was diplomatic and professional when he needed to be, but could also be a clown and displayed a range of personalities.
She shared that they spent the Easter weekend together and that he spent his final days surrounded by family.
“I was there with him until his last breath. We were holding hands and he was watching me and even when he was out of breath he still had a smile,” she said.
“Liga told me to stop leaving things for later. Let’s hold on to the awesome memories we have of Liga, continue to share the love and today (Wednesday) we celebrate his life.”
His daughter, Helga Gukisuva was emotional as she expressed what her father meant to her.
“My father was an amazing man. He was loving and spontaneous. I am grateful for the time I spent with my father and the family dates we would have,” she said.
“He was the best dad. He taught us to go beyond our limits, to come out of our comfort zones and to always push forward regardless of how heavy it might feel.
“He was a supportive father and was always there for me and my siblings.” His uncle, Viliame Gavoka, remembered him as the life of any event, a cheerful person who brought laughter to all gatherings.
Liga was associated with Vodafone Fiji’s corporate social responsibility arm in sports and other events.
He was a regular guest on the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation radio station Bula FM’s prime time breakfast show and he also contested in the 2018 General Election for Unity Fiji.
He worked as a financial advisor at BSP Life (Fiji) Limited until his passing.
He is survived by his wife and three children.
