First Aid Worker Helps Accident Victims
Afirst aid worker promptly responded to the call of assistance during a motor vehicle accident in Tabia, Labasa on Tuesday.
Mitieli Duvuloco, the north manager of the Fiji Red Cross Society, and a volunteer were on their way home in Seaqaqa when they came across the accident and provided immediate help to the victims. Despite the absence of police at the site, Mr Duvuloco and his staff ensured that there were no fatalities.
The accident involved a bus owned by Parmod Enterprises Pte Limited, a six-wheeler truck, and a Government twin cab.
According to an eyewitness, the truck driver’s overtaking maneuver allegedly caused the accident. Police spokesperson, Wame Bautolu, confirmed the incident and that there were no serious injuries reported.
The accident occurred between 4:45 pm and 5:20 pm and involved more than ten passengers, the bus driver, and workers from the truck company.
Most of the victims complained of minor injuries such as internal pains and uneasiness while the bus driver sustained a cut on his leg. Mr Duvuloco transported the bus driver and passengers to the Labasa Divisional Hospital.
After returning to the accident site at 6:45 pm, Mr Duvuloco found some passengers still in need of help.
He assisted a couple who had suffered chest pains and breathing difficulties and ensured that they were taken to the hospital for further medical attention. Mr Duvuloco emphasised the importance of basic first aid courses and urged the public to participate in such training to acquire lifesaving skills.
