Lanky Swire Shipping Fijian Drua lock forward Isoa Nasilasila plays his 20th Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific match against the Chiefs at the FMG Stadium Waikato in Hamilton, tomorrow night.

The 23-year-old takes an outright lead for most Drua appearances. Nasilasila, for this year has been in the starting line-up of all the Drua’s seven Super Rugby matches and on Friday will be his eighth. Nicknamed ‘Ice’ he partners Leone Rotuisolia as they take on the experienced Chiefs captain Brodie Retallick and Manaaki Selby-Rickit. Chiefs head coach Clayton McMillan said the Fijian Drua has shown rapid improvement in their second season.

“They have our full respect and attention,” he said.

“We know they have the athletes and skills to hurt you, particularly through the middle of the park where their power and athleticism can bend defensive lines and allow them to offload in contact.”

In their clash last year, the Chiefs won 35-34 at Churchill Park, Lautoka.

Drua head coach Mick Byrne has included Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games gold medallist Kalione Nasoko in his Matchday 23 squad.

Nasoko has survived two major injuries, which threatened to end his rugby career. He is likely to make his Super Rugby debut in Hamilton as he provides cover for the midfield backs.

Also, making their first starts this season are loosehead prop Haereiti Hetet, Michael Naitokani, while Chris Minimbi makes a first appearance this season on the bench.

Also, back in the line-up is hooker Tevita Ikanivere who will captain the side in the absence of Meli Derenalagi.

Joseva Tamani remains at blindside flanker, while Elia Canakaivata shifts position to openside flanker with Te Ahiwaru Cirikidaveta at No.8.

Byrne retained the halves combination of Peni Matawalu and Teti Tela. Tuidraki Samusamuvodre retains his spot on the wing where he partners Ilaisa Droasese.

Byrne has gone for a new midfield combination of Naitokani at second five eight with blockbusting centre Apisalome Vota returning to the starting line-up. Selestino Ravutaumada completes the backline at fullback.

The match kicks off at 7.05pm.
