AMBASSADOR POSITIONS FOR FIVE FIJI EMBASSIES ADVERTISED
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advertised the position of Head of Mission at five Fiji embassies abroad.
Expressions of interest are invited from qualified persons to head Fiji’s foreign missions in Abu Dhabi, Canberra, Geneva, Jakarta and Tokyo.
Applications close at 4pm on May 12.
The posts were previously held by Naipote Katonitabua in Abu Dhabi, David Kolitagane in Canberra, Luke Daunivalu in Geneva, Amena Yauvoli in Jakarta and Filimone Waqabaca in Tokyo.
The Head of Mission will be responsible for advancing
Fiji’s foreign policy interest in the bilateral and multilateral platforms for the region and the relevant Mission.
They will provide strategic advice to the Minister and Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs on the priorities of the Ministry, and its alignment to Fiji’s national development interest.
They are responsible for scoping for new opportunities for Fiji in the areas of trade and investment, tourism, cultural/ people to people exchange, health, defence and security, climate financing and other areas as set out in the Ministry’s Operational Plan.
As Head of Mission, the successful applicant will be responsible for the effective governance and management of financial, physical assets and human resources of the Mission in keeping with national laws and regulations including the Fijian Civil Service regulations and guidelines.
In an earlier interview, former Acting Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Peter Wise said former heads of missions from the previous government Could reapply for their posts when it was advertised.
They were given six months to return to Fiji with some of them facing termination.
