Corerega: Schools rugby league finals on

The Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League’s (FSSRL) Vodafone Trophy grandfinal is set for this Saturday at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

This was confirmed yesterday by FSSRL’s media officer Laisiasa Corerega who also thanked Vodafone Fiji for sponsoring the competitio­n since it started in 2007.

“The FSSRL were fortunate to get approval from the Ministry of Education for the change in the dates of the Vodafone Trophy grand final because of the Coca-Cola Games,” he said.

“We are grateful that the same officials that are officiatin­g in the athletics competitio­n will now be free this Saturday for the Vodafone Trophy.

“We thank our parent body Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) for all their technical assistance along with all stakeholde­rs, the teachers and the coaches.”

For the first time Naitasiri Warriors and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School (MGM) are playing in their first final in their respective grades.

“The Warriors face Ratu Kadalevu School Eels in the Under-19 grand final while MGM takes on Ba Provincial Freebird Institute Dragons in the U17 final.

“Rugby League has pathway opportunit­ies young players. provided for our “It’s good to have stakeholde­rs like Kaiviti Silktails that allow opportunit­ies for our players to further their skills and experience in the sport.”

The competitio­n has been the breeding ground of many of our top players like Sisa Waqa, Viliame Kikau, Suliasi Vunivalu, Tui Kamikamica, Marika Koroibete, Taqele Naiyaravor­o, Seta Tamanivalu, Aminiasi Tuimaba, Eroni Sau, Selestino Ravutaumad­a and the list goes on.

Corerega said the ticket prices would remain the same. That is $15 for the grandstand, $10 for children in uniforms.

9.00am – 9.55am: U15 RKS Eels v Ba Pro Dragons

10.25 – 11.05am: Girl’s Lomaivuna Raiders v Namosi Titans

11.25am – 12.30pm: U17 MGM Dragons v Ba Pro Dragons

1.30pm – 2.55pm: U19 RKS Eels v Naitasiri Warriors
