Hardships, Obstacles Fail To Deter Nandan

For Vrinda Vanshika Nandan, 23, obstacles and hardships in life did not discourage her from chasing her dream to become a lawyer.

Ms Nandan was admitted to the bar by the Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo at the University of Fiji bar admission ceremony at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva yesterday.

It was a day filled with various emotions for her and her family because she had worked hard to get to where she is today. Ms Nandan’s house in Suva burned down just before her exams during her first year of studies.

Although she faced the hardship of not having a home and losing out on the necessities for her to continue studying, the thought of dropping out from the programme never crossed her mind and she was determined to become a lawyer.

“My house burned down but the thought of stopping my education never crossed my mind,” Ms Nandan said.

“My parents, family and my temple members supported me throughout the years I was studying. “The members from the temple helped me with books and clothes so I could go to school and here I am today.

“My house burned when I started my law school in year 1 in 2018. It was around the semester end and my exams were coming up but it didn’t stop me from studying.

“I am a naive and shy person and could not speak for myself. I decided to turn the table around and be an inspiration for other girls as well. If I can do it, so can they.” Ms Nandan said her strength came from her little blue boy (Lord Krishna) and he had faith in him that he would be right behind her and protect her at every step.

She also thanked her parents for supporting her.
