Foundation Presents Submissions for 2023/2024 National Budget
The Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) has submitted a number of proposals for the 2023/2024 National Budget. The key focus is on recycling and up-cycling to foster economic, environmental, and social developments for Fiji. PRF founder, Amitesh Deo, recommended that the government commission a study on specific areas of recycling to minimise pollution, reduce solid waste and protect the environment.
As part of their proposals, PRF has suggested a costeffective and sustainable waste management solution for Lautoka City by placing ‘I Recycle Hub’ bins at strategic locations.

They have also proposed a public-private partnership approach to explore opportunities for tire shredding and processing plants and end-of-life vehicles procedures and processing facilities.
PRF also seeks to commit to a partnership to upscale the ‘Recycling on the Go Ambassadors Programme’ to more schools in Fiji, provide structured support to informal waste pickers, and offer sorting and resting sheds, washroom facilities, water tanks near key dumpsites, and PPEs. PRF handed over their budget submissions to the head of fiscal policy, research, and analysis, Munesh Deo at the Ministry of Finance.
The PRF acknowledges the government’s commitment to an environment of open dialogue, transparency, and accountability and urges the government to tap into local knowledge and expertise for solutions regarding proper waste management.
